When a player takes an overly long time to make a decision while facing a
bet, that’s referred to as tanking or going into the tank. His thoughts might
include is it a bluff or should I call? Do I want to call off my chips? What are
my pot odds? What is my opponent’s possible range of hands? All valid
and acceptable. However, if it’s intentional to move up a spot for a pay
jump or just stalling and wasting time, it’s poor etiquette.
