This is when a player calls a bet, usually on the river, despite suspecting they are beaten. It’s often done because they’ve already invested so much money in the pot and can’t bring themselves to fold. It’s made reluctantly out of hope or desperation. After the loss, one sometimes hears, “My implied odds were good” or “I had to see his hand.”
