This is one of poker players most common beliefs. And, surely you’ve
experienced it. You’re playing NLH and you pick up pocket Kings (odds of
it happening are 1/221 times). And, of course, the flop includes an Ace.
Actually, an Ace will appear 22% of the time (which still seems pretty damn
high!). Somehow your brain is wired to forget the other 78% of the time
when an Ace is a no-show. It’s referred to as confirmation bias and we all
do it.
