The recently completed World Series of Poker rang up almost a half-billion
dollars in entry fees ($480,764,185). This staggering amount is $40 million more
than last year’s take. Was it profitable? You bet. Here’s the breakdown. From
the $480,764,185 collected, $437,440,545 went into prize pools (90%). The
remaining 10% rake ($43,323,640) was distributed to the WSOP. Of that, 7%
($30,274,048) was taken in entry fees and 3% ($13,049,592) went to the
workers/staff. The main event prize pool was over $94 million and drew 10,112
players. The winner, Jonathan Tamayo, won $10 million.
