The iconic Mirage Hotel & Casino closed its doors in July 2024. In place of its famed volcano, a towering 700 foot high guitar-shaped hotel will be constructed and rebranded as the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino and Guitar Hotel Las Vegas. Its planned opening is 2027. Here’s a fascinating consequence of shutting down: Nevada law requires all progressive jackpots be paid out before they close shop. So, they had to “unload” $1.6 million in prizes. Table games distributed $400,000 to players and the slot machines paid off $1.2 million. The latter caused hours-long waits to play.
